At this time, everyone on earth spoke the same language. The people decided to build a city and a big, tall tower. They said, "We'll be famous! And we can all live in this city."
So, they began to build the city and tower. But God didn't want all the people to stay in one place. He made the people speak different languages. The people were confused when they couldn't understand each other anymore. The city became known as "Babel," which sounds like the word "confused" in the Hebrew language.
Since the people couldn't understand each other, they stopped building the city. They moved away to different places all over the world. This was part of God's plan.
