After Joseph died, an evil king ruled Egypt. He was afraid of Joseph's huge family, the Israelites. He thought they might take Egypt away from him. So, the bad king made a law that all Israelite baby boys should be drowned.
When Moses was born his mother hid him. She made a tiny boat out of grasses and tar. She put baby Moses in the little boat. And she put the boat in the Nile River.
The king's daughter came to the river. There she found baby Moses crying as he floated in the basket. She felt sorry for Moses and adopted him. Moses grew up in the King's own house. And that's right where God wanted him.
